Whooh! Sunday is finally here. The weekdays can be so stressful. Job pressures and deadlines; bills and unfinished business. But then Sunday comes. What a relief to be in a place where love abounds, where it’s not about the money, where people have a moral standard they are striving to live by, where you can say the name “Jesus” as loud as you want to without raising eyebrows, where you can peacefully take the Lord’s Supper together with fellow Christians and worship (proskuneo-to kiss toward) the God who created you. And then there’s the prayer. Oh, how therapeutic and peaceful it is to pray; to cast off the troubles of this dark world and lay our burdens at the foot of the cross, knowing God hears us and cares about us and shows us the way out of our deepest pits of despair. To have others praying for us, knowing there are elders, deacons, ministers, plus other church members praying for you, interceding before God on your behalf. How could we possibly fail when others are asking God to give us strength to battle Satan and his plots to ruin our faith? “Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises. Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” (James 5:13-16). We don’t need drugs or alcohol (which is a drug) or man’s wisdom to mask the problems. What we need is Jesus and His church. You can relax now. Sunday is here.
Sunday is finally here.
