Born Blind

Born blind. Life would seem so incomplete without sight. People could describe it to you, you could touch it, hear it, smell it, but never have the experience of seeing it. In John 9 there was a man who had been blind his entire life; blind until Jesus healed him. What it must have been like to finally see trees, birds and the sky for the first time. What a flood of sensation this man must have experienced. Since Jesus healed him on the Sabbath, the Pharisees took exception to His act of kindness and had the man brought in for questioning. They grilled him about the event and then his parents and then interrogated him again. In a rage the Pharisees screamed at him, "Give glory to God," they said. "We know this man is a sinner." He replied, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!" John 9:24-25. There is such judiciousness in his innocent reply. He could not answer all the accusations against Jesus, but one thing he knew for certain, he was looking at these Pharisees through eyes Jesus had healed. Over the past 40 years I have heard Jesus accused of being a liar, adulterous, homosexual, raving lunatic and a fabricated myth. It hurts when others say such things and I have tried my best to refute these slanders but the greatest evidence of all for the authenticity of our Savior is this: "I was blind but now I see!" People can mock Jesus all they want. I believe because I have been healed. I have been healed of more than blindness. I was rescued from my sin when at the waters of baptism I gave my life over to Him. I will defend His name as long as I live because of what He has done for me. I do everything in my power to persuade others to follow Jesus. Some see it. Some remain blind.
