“Jesus is all the world to me, My life, my joy my all;” These words written in 1904 by Will L. Thompson so aptly express the attitude every Christian should have. If someone asked you, “What does Jesus mean to you?” what would you say? Would you say Jesus is your whole world? Is Jesus reigning as the Lord of your life or is He a token of general rules you try to live by? Life is about the choices we make, and we each decide what is most important to us. A large crowd once gathered around Jesus hoping to receive His healing. Jesus asked them, “Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46). It was a rhetorical question. He did not expect an answer. He asked the question to make people think about whether they truly knew the meaning of the word “Lord.” Lord means master, the one who is in charge, who has authority and even ownership of our lives. Is Jesus your Lord? Do you obey Him? Does He own you, your time, your talents, your possessions, your job, your weaknesses, your relationships, yourself? Is Jesus honestly and truthfully in charge of your life, or are you in charge? It is a crucial question, perhaps the most crucial question you could ask yourself this morning. You see, it is easy to say (and pretend) Jesus is our Lord, or to sing “Jesus is all the world to me” and not completely surrender our lives to Him. Some attend church for years and years and have never experienced the joy of a fully Christ-guided life. We go to church when WE want to. We read our Bibles when WE want to. We share our faith… Well, some never even get to that one. Who is truly in charge of your life; you or Christ? Why not allow Christ to lift your burden? Perhaps it is time for you to sing another song: “I Surrender All.”
Jesus is all the World to Me
