“What Does God expect from me? I read all these commands in the Bible. I listen to the sermons and classes about how I need to do this and that, change this and that. It’s a bit overwhelming. I’m not a complicated person. Isn’t there a way to dumb-it-down, to make this stuff simpler? I just want to know what God wants from me.” Anytime we have questions, the Bible has an answer. Micah 6:6-8 says, “With what shall I come to the LORD And bow myself before the God on high? Shall I come to Him with burnt offerings, With yearling calves? Does the LORD take delight in thousands of rams, In ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I present my firstborn for my rebellious acts, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?” In simple terms, there are really three things the Lord requires of you. First, do justice. You don’t like being treated unfairly. Be fair to others. Don’t cheat yourself and don’t cheat others either. Don’t do what you want to do until you have done what you’re supposed to do and do what is right regardless of what others do. Second, love kindness. David was kind to Mephibosheth, 2 Samuel 9:1-13. Onesiphorus was kind to Paul, 2 Timothy 1:16-18. Learn to show kindness to others. Being like the Lord means caring about people, placing their needs above your own, Philippians 2:3; 1 Peter 5:5. And third, walk humbly with your God. Doing religious things is not impressive to God, Micah 6:6-7. God wants us to turn from sin and live humbly for Him. Life doesn’t have a remote. You have to get up and change it yourself. God doesn’t expect you to know everything, do everything. Find one thing to work on. Keep it simple.
