“Father, it humbles me deeply when I think about whom I am addressing at this moment. I look at this world, the beauty of the scenery around me, the way you created each of us as unique individuals, the marvel of the animals you fashioned and the natural balance of our life-sustaining environment. It truly humbles me to think that You, the All-powerful Being who created all this, are taking the time right now to hear me. Who am I? There is nothing special about me. I am a common person, yet you make me feel special by the way You give me Your attention. I am approaching You today with a request. I don’t ask this selfishly. It is Your kingdom, Your church, that lies at the heart of what I am asking You today. I am asking that our worship service will have a positive impact on the faith of each individual worshipper this morning. Our songs, prayers, preaching, giving and taking the Supper is to be done for Your benefit. You are the object of our worship and certainly I pray our service will express to You how much we adore and admire You. But my prayer is also for my fellow brothers and sisters with whom I will be worshipping today. I see their dedication to assemble with the rest of the saints. I have witnessed what many of them have to overcome just to get themselves to the church building. No doubt, You see it as well. They are good people, Father. They truly love You and are committed to carrying out Your will in their lives and in our community. Our hearts are in the right place. You know this, Father, and yet sometimes our heads are somewhere else. I pray You will help our hearts and our heads to be in the right place on this blessed Lord’s day. Help our worship to be uplifting and Christ-focused. This I pray by the authority of Christ. Amen.”
