b who u iz

“B who u is cuz if u is who u ain’t u ain’t who u is.” You may need to read that a couple of times to get it, but once you do, there’s a lot of truth in that backwoods statement. “B who u is.” In other words, don’t try to be someone you’re not. What is it about church that makes us think we need to put up a façade, erect some image and try to be somebody we’re not? Most of us are smart enough to realize the Creator of the universe who also created each of us, knows exactly who we are. Our disguises don’t fool Him. It’s not for God’s sake that we put on a show. It’s for people. We worry about what others might think of us if they discovered who we really are. So we hide behind this persona, this false projection of our real selves. I am writing this article with the hope of convincing you to stop putting up a front and be real. We’ve got to get over this idea that we somehow have to convince others that we don’t have any problems. And I know why we act that way. It’s because people around us are so judgmental. It’s true. They are, but that should not stop you from being honest and open about your frailties. Get over what other people think. Paul did. He said, “But to me it is a very small thing that I may be examined by you, or by any human court; in fact, I do not even examine myself.” 1 Corinthians 4:3. The NIV84 puts it this way, “I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself.” What difference does it make how someone judges you? We aren’t living to please people, or we shouldn’t be. Paul says, “I do not even judge myself.” How others judge me doesn’t matter. How I judge myself doesn't matter. What does God think of me? That’s all that really matters.
