The Bible, sweeter than honey

Winnie the Pooh and I have something in common; we both LOVE honey. It tastes so good. It’s good on toast, on biscuits, in hot tea, on ice cream or just scooping it out of the jar with your paw. It is nature’s perfect food. It does not need to be refrigerated and it never spoils. Archeological digs have uncovered honey from ancient Egyptian tombs thousands of years old. It’s still edible. Honey fights bacteria making it medicinally beneficial for scrapes and burns. It is prescribed occasionally for MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). It’s a home remedy for sore throats. Honey is mentioned 64 times in the Bible. Twenty of those times it is in the phrase “a land flowing with milk and honey” as a description of the promised land. Milk is highly perishable but a natural nutritional source for humans and animals. Honey, on the other hand, is the only food produced by insects and it is consumed by both insects and humans. Of course, the bees don’t fly 55,000 miles visiting 2 million+ flowers to make a pound of honey just for me and Winnie. They make it for their hive to survive the winter. Honey is so nutritious it provided half the mainstay of the diet of John the Baptizer, Matthew 3:4; Mark 1:6. The Bible encourages us to eat honey. “My son, eat honey, for it is good; Yes, the honey from the comb is sweet to your taste; Proverbs 24:13. The Bible also warns us not to eat too much. Have you found honey? Eat only what you need, So that you do not have it in excess and vomit it. Proverbs 25:16. It is not good to eat much honey, Nor is it glory to search out one’s own glory. Proverbs 25:27. The judgments of the Lord are sweeter than honey, Psalm 19:9-10. On and on it goes. Here’s my point. The Bible covers many practical and DELICIOUS subjects. Read your Bible. Discover how sweet it is.
