Hospitals are where you go when you are sick or injured. A doctor examines your condition and decides on the best treatment. A medication is administered, and the nurses monitor your vital signs to see if there is any change. This treatment has been recommended because it was successful in curing others, but what if you are unresponsive to the medication? That’s bad. If the doctor comes in and says, “We have administered the proper medication to cure your illness, but unfortunately your body has not responded to the medication,” that is not good. In the same way, it is bad when someone is unresponsive to the Word of God. We are here this Sunday morning because we are all sick. Jesus once said, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick.” Matthew 9:12. It is not pleasant to think about, but we are sick with sin. We need our spiritual health restored to us and we have come to the Great Physician. Jesus will administer to you the healing power of His Word today, but it is up to you to decide whether you will be responsive to it or not. Something will be said today that you need to hear and respond to. You may not necessarily need to come forward during the invitation song, but you need to respond to the prescription of the Great Physician. Those of us who have been going to church for decades are often tempted to think there is nothing special about this Lord’s day. It’s just another Sunday. We know the routine. We’ve heard it all before. Don’t you realize there is always more for you to learn? Unless you are perfectly like Christ already, there are areas of your life which need to change. Don’t be afraid of change. Don’t have a heart that is unyielding. Instead be anxious to learn more, to apply more of God’s saving guidance to your life. Let God heal you. Prepare your heart to respond.
