Life is good until we make it bad. You probably know a guy or gal from high school who was top of the class, destined for great things but ended up spiraling out of control. Our class salutatorian was voted Most Likely to Succeed. Both his parents were district judges. Wonderful home life. We played basketball together. He got accepted into some ivy league school and I lost touch with him. Five years later I heard he had a drug habit and had lost some high salary job. I don’t know if that was true or not, but it would not be the first time that happened. Addiction makes good people do bad things, things which deep down they wouldn’t normally do. You hate to see it. It is so easy to stand back and think “Why did they choose that path?” Most people don’t believe they are choosing that path at the time. Nobody starts taking drugs thinking “I want to be a hollowed-out drug addict someday.” You don’t start drinking with the intention of becoming an alcoholic and dying from cirrhosis of the liver. You don’t think it will happen to you. The other guy maybe, but not you. Get real. “Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned? Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?” Proverbs 6:27-28. Flirting with another man’s wife thinking it won’t lead to problems is like scooping hot coals into your lap thinking you won’t get burned. Drugs, alcohol, gambling, tobacco, sexual immorality, stealing, gossip, greed… If you mess with something God tells you not to mess with, you’re gonna get burned. I wish there was something I could tell you in this article to persuade you to stay away from sinful choices. God inspired men to write the Bible so we can know what makes life good or bad. But just knowing isn’t enough. You have to do what it says or it doesn’t work.
Life is Good
