My Life in Christ

The following was sent to me twelve years ago by a young sister whom I had the privilege of watching grow up faithful to God. “When I was a child, I remember walking across the parking lot to church every time we could. I don't remember discussing it, I just remember that we did. The people there were my friends, my local "grandparents", some of my home schoolteachers as well as my Bible class teachers. They were the best potluck cooks, the greatest event organizers, the most generous when others were in need, and the most prayerful people I've ever known. The church celebrated with me as they watched me put on Christ in baptism, become engaged and married to my best friend, and become "mommy" for the first time. Now they bless my little boy at every opportunity- with love, kind comments, gifts, encouragement, and endless attention. I don't want to think about what my life would have been, and would be now, without these people. They are my support system and my very best friends. My childhood was enriched by their presence, and now they enrich my baby's life. Besides all of that, the church is Christ's bride. I need no more reason than that to cherish her. But she has given me reason, and I can't imagine not spending tomorrow with my best friends, worshiping God and then enjoying a meal together. (Potluck Sunday has always been a highlight in my life. One of the first things we asked the congregations we visited in Florida was "When is potluck?") It's late, and I need to go to bed before the little one wakes up again, but I just really felt like posting this. Maybe to encourage someone who reads it to find the church in their area and be there. Be there to be blessed and to bless others, and because the church is Christ's bride and the first day of the week is the day we worship Him together. Goodnight!”
