Do you have to physically see Jesus to believe in Him? Can you believe Jesus’ feet walked the dusty roads of Nazareth even though you were not there to watch Him pass by? Can you believe with confidence that Jesus was lifted high on a cross while verbally asking God to forgive His tormentors? We sing in worship the song “We Saw Thee Not,” but do you believe what you are singing? “We gazed not in the open tomb where once Thy mangled body lay.” We sing about Jesus’ resurrection and then we tell God through this song we didn’t have to be present to believe this was a real historical event. Bodily resurrection and ascension into heaven is beyond the laws of nature, and still we sing “we believe that human eyes beheld that journey to the skies.” Do you really? The Bible says belief is necessary in order to be saved. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16. Without belief we will perish but it doesn’t do any good just to say we believe. We need to honestly/truthfully believe. So do you? Do you wholly believe Jesus was physically raised from the dead and He is your Savior? The world is full of know-it-alls who will tell you, you are a fool to believe in Jesus. The gospel sounds foolish to worldly minded people and always has. “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18. Thomas had to see to believe. Jesus told him, "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed." John 20:29. God’s Word says it is a blessing to believe in Jesus. If you do not have that blessing yet, I hope you will before this Sunday is over.
