Strengthen Your Conscience

Sunday is a day to assemble with other Christians. During our assembly God’s Word will be preached and it will have an effect on each of us. Every portion of the Bible has a message from God about how we are to think and to behave, but the impact today’s message will have depends mostly on you as the worshipper. You see, we all have an internal judgment of morals. We call it a conscience. When we are assembled worshipping God the way we have been commanded to, it strengthens our faith. Our faith in turn motivates us to want to gain more from God’s Word so we can do more of God’s will. That is why Christians who miss church find themselves going back to old sins. Their conscience grows weak. The internal voice that is supposed to tell them what they are doing is wrong dwindles to a whisper. Titus 1:15 says, “To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.” The sinful world we live in is constantly defiling our consciences. We give in to our conscience and we sin. Sin is pleasurable. The Bible says that it is: Hebrews 11:25. And so we all face this dilemma. We can continue in the pleasure of sin, in which case we are not likely to want to go to church and hear that our sin is wrong, or we can decide we want to rid our lives of sin, in which case we can’t seem to get enough of being with the church. The Hebrew writer says, “Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things.” Hebrews 13:18. A good conscience is one that bothers you when you are about to do something wrong and leaves you alone when you are not sinning. My prayer is that today the Holy Spirit will strengthen your conscience.
